The Muddy Teachers Ask..……..Where can I get free outdoor learning resources?

We know it, you know it. Sometimes we need things fast and free!

Woodland Trust: They have lots of planting idea packs on here and ideas on how these can be linked to the curriculum. You can order free tree packs too! Bonus! 

Learning through Landscapes: Offers a variety of single-session lessons that can be used across the age ranges. 

Outdoor Classroom Day: Spend a full day outside, often the date is in May, and they provide free resources to support you to do this. 

Outdoor and Woodland Learning – A fun site with lots of cute ideas and lesson packs.

Wildlife Trust: Join in the 30 days Wild Challenge with lots of helpful ideas for you to do this. Great to set the parents as home learning. 

Sustainable learning – lots of ideas on offer here, all free and easily downloaded. 

Twinkl: Offer a range of ideas to get the children outside and active. 

The National Trust: Follow this list of ideas for 50 things to do before your 11. 

Country Classroom – To bring farming and food into your curriculum. 

Creative Star – great Blog with lots of top tips. 

Digimap for Schools – Will help you take orienteering and mapping activities outside. Great fun! 

Field Studies – Lots of freebies to help you take more geography outside and explore field study work. 

Learning Outdoors Support Team – various free areas to explore here and ideas. 

Ordnance Survey – Lots of tips and tricks to get families and activities outside. 

Outdoor Learning Directory: This can help you find outdoor activities and adventures in Scotland. 

The Muddy Puddle Teacher – 100’s of free resources, ranging from babies to age 11. Linked to the curriculum and use only natural and upcycled resources. Free Blog. Free CPD Podcast. Training also available. 

Muddy Faces – Free ideas section in their outdoor hub and free Blog with ideas. 

John Muir – Great award scheme to work towards to gain an outdoor learning status and recognition. 

Muddy Puddles: Have a great blog for parents to help join in with getting outside in all weathers. 

RHET – Food and farming lesson plans and activities. 

Geo-catching for Schools: Great resource, and it is addictive! Once you have done one, you will want to do them all the time! 

RSPB – free resources around birds and wildlife. The big bird watch is a muddy puddle favourite! 

Teach Outdoors – plenty of free and fun ideas to download.
